Please note that the guide below will show you how to jailbreak iPhone 3G firmware 3.0 and 3.0.1 only. If it’s on firmware 3.1 or 3.1.2, you can jailbreak your iPhone 3G using blackra1n. Before we start, download redsn0w 0.8 and firmware 3.0 ipsw to your PC.
Close the iTunes and launch the redsn0w. On the Welcome page, click Browse button and locate firmware 3.0 ipsw. It’ll be identified and the redsn0w will state that the IPSW is successfully identified.

Click Next button, the redsn0w will patch the firmware and then check install Cydia or install Icy installer. You can choose to install both installers. For this guide, I’ll check install Cydia only and click Next button.

Then, make sure your iPhone is both connected to your PC and is power off. If not, connect your iPhone to your PC first and then power it off.

Now, you need to prepare to hold sleep/wake and home buttons. Click Next button and follow the instructions. The redsn0w will transfer the necessary files to your iPhone in DFU mode to jailbreak your iPhone and it’ll automatically be restarted. You shall see Cydia installer on the home screen. If you didn’t jailbreak successfully for the first time, you can always start the steps all over again.

P/S: You can install the ultrasn0w through Cydia installer to unlock your iPhone 3G.

Could you try to restart your PC and launch the redsn0w to jailbreak your iPhone again.
Make sure you’ve used redsn0w 0.8 and the firmware for your iPhone generation.
