How to Convert your Favorite Songs to iPhone Ringtones

I guess you’ve been searching around the web to look for free iPhone ringtones as Apple iPhone has only a few for you to select and yet, you couldn’t use the songs from your iPod as your mobile ringtones. Actually, you can make your own custom ringtones from your iTunes’ music library and more importantly, you can choose your favorite songs to be used as your iPhone ringtones. How? You will need to convert the selected songs on your iTunes’s library to iPhone ringtones and then transfer them to your iPhone. The cool thing is you can covert the songs for free using the iTunes on your PC.

Ringtone Converting Instructions:

We need to set the iTunes encoder to AAC encoder. On iTunes toolbar, go to Edit, Preferences and select Import Settings. Make sure you’ve selected AAC encoder.

On iTunes music library, right click your selected favorite song, select Get Info and go to Option tab. Set the Start and End time of the song you’d like to play and click Ok. The maximum duration for an iPhone ringtones to play is 30 seconds. Eg, Start time: 1:00 and End time: 1:30.

After that, right click your selected song again and select Create AAC Version. The iTunes will duplicate the song with duration 30 seconds long only.

Then, drag the duplicated songs to your desktop and you should see the file extension of the song is .M4A. You need to rename it to .M4R and delete the duplicated song on iTunes music library. If the file doesn’t show its extension, go to Control Panel, Folder Options, View tab and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types and click Ok.

After renamed, double click the song file on your desktop and it will be played on iTunes ringtones library. You can repeat the steps to convert another songs.

After finished converting, sync the ringtones to your iPhone. Make sure you’ve checked Sync ringtones on your iPhone ringtones panel.

The songs you’ve selected for the conversion will only play for 30 seconds, so please remember to uncheck the Start and End time every time you’ve done the converting.

Hi vip3r,

You may want to try the SUPER video encoder to convert any of your video to iPod format.
